Hope for Her

I am Pastor Josphine Kolala of Shalom Christian Centre in Kawama. There are many reasons why I am involved in the fight against HIV and AIDS. But if I were to choose just one reason, it would be that every person should hear the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I am one of the 288 church leaders who have been privileged to undergo the Transformation Journey Course that is offered by Jubilee Centre in partnership with Willow Creek, Southridge and Ridgepoint Churches in the USA. The training has helped me how to identify what needs to change in the community and how the church and community can work together in developing a vision for the future and planning how we can bring about this change in the community.

Because of this training I saw the need to engage my local government on issues related to HIV and AIDS. The provincial government saw my passion and they invited me to join the Provincial Organizing Committee tasked to organize activities of International Women’s Day’s in March last year. Because of my presence the meetings started with and ended with prayer. And because of my presence the Committee recognized the need for Biblical teaching on morality during the celebration. I was given the task to plan for this activities and I mobilized the churches in the Jubilee Centre Network and went into the markets to preach the gospel, and share on the importance of abstinence. I also organized the women drama group from the churches to come share the hope we have in Christ to over 3000 people on a single day.

I have passed the training I learnt in Strategic planning to others churches in my denomination. My Bishop who at first thought I was up to nothing good, because of my commitment and drive to see that all our churches articulate the vision and strategy to the members now recognizes me as one of his key leaders. All this happened because of the lessons learnt that bringing change in not easy but we must do it with gentleness and patience.
