Jubilee Centre drilling nine boreholes in Ndola

THE Jubilee Centre is drilling nine boreholes in low-income areas in Ndola for more than 4,000 people to access clean water.

Boreholes at Reformed Church of ChristJubilee Centre director Lawrence Temfwe said the project was aimed at supplementing Government’s efforts to help communities access clean water supply.

He said the lack of clean water and sanitation where major cause of water borne diseases.

“Lots of people have been digging shallow wells. Shallow wells are not safe, which is why we are sinking bore holes in different churches,” he said.

Rev Temfwe said access to clean water and sanitation a basic human right and was also in line with Millennium Development Goals.

He said the bore hole were been placed on church premises for security and maintenance.“We don’t want people to vandalize them. Churches are central to the community. In fact, we are appealing to them to protect the property.

He said the K230-million project had been funded by the Willow Creek Church in the United States of America.

The boreholes are being installed in Chifubu, Nkwazi and Mapalo (formerly Chipulukusu) townships.
